Mission: The Ellen Taylor Foundation for Junior Shaggers has been established to provide financial assistance for juniors (those
under age 21) who want to participate in shag dancing and shag dance events
and may not otherwise be able to afford to participate.
Junior SOS is held in July at North Myrtle Beach during peak season for tourists and the hotel rooms are expensive. Consequently many families cannot afford to bring their children to the beach. However, the financial need for promoting our dance through the juniors goes beyond Junior SOS. One of the Foundation's goals is to provide school systems with the tools to encourage young people to shag by supplying instructional dvds and holding free workshops. Today's youth are the future of the dance and the Foundation's desire is to ensure that the preservation of the shag remains strong through the interest of our young people.
The Ellen Taylor Foundation for Junior Shaggers is incorporated by the State of South Carolina and as of the fall of 2007, is actively applying for tax exempt status as a 501C(3) organization under the IRS tax code. After the tax-exempt status is approved, donations to the Ellen Taylor Foundation will be considered tax-deductible for individuals and corporations. All charitable donations are subject to tax rules and regulations and donors are advised to seek counsel from their tax advisor on the donor's eligibility to claim a charitable tax donation credit.
Donations are now being accepted and a letter of acknowledgement will
be returned to the donor by mail until the Foundation receives
tax-exempt status, at which time a tax-exempt donation receipt will be
mailed to the donor. Checks and/or money orders should be made
out to:
